The Fall

It was a cliff’s edge, sharp,
we crawled to its protuberance
Stood, brave.
I, safe in the thought of
your hand in mine.

It was a risky undertaking.
But like most climbers,
the scars, the scratches
are war songs.
And this song, I believe,
I sang with you.

To death and beyond,
Safe in the thought of your hand in mine,
We jumped.

But only I was falling.

I looked.
I felt the wind on my back,
as if rushing the fall.
Up on the cliff, still you stood.
But you’re not alone.

I realized then, you’ve chosen to let go
just as I was falling.
